Henk's Bar-B-Que - Amarillo

Just My Rating and a Few Notes (For Now):

My late lunch at Henk's was thoroughly disappointing.  The service was lacking, the sides were average but most importantly, the meat was subpar.  I expected it after I had to correct the girl 3 times that I wanted sliced brisket, not chopped.  Then the man behind the counter doused my meat in unrequested sauce.  Sigh... Luckily I stopped him before the sauce hit the ribs. They packed my meats up to go so I took it to the table and slowly unboxed the inevitable. The brisket consisted of poorly rendered chunks of fat swimming in the pool of sauce.  The meat I could find had no discernible flavor of its own.  The stingy serving of sausage was just ok. The ribs may have been the one high point but they were doused in salt the same way the other meats were covered with the cumin flavored sauce. The result was way too salty for my tastes.

*All Grades Are Based Solely on the Quality of Texas BBQ Offered at the Joint. We Aren't Looking for Burgers or Catfish!

My Grading Scale:

A = This is some of the finest BBQ you'll find anywhere. It is worth a roadtrip in itself along with any required wait.
B = This is very good BBQ, even if it is over an hour away, consider making the drive.
C = This is just average BBQ but it's worth a stop in a pinch.
D = This is a poor example of Texas BBQ. Even if it's the only place around, skip it. Apologize to any non-Texans that have eaten here.
F = This is not only a bad Texas BBQ, it is probably not suitable for human consumption.
